Why sustainability?
Many of our systems are inherently broken, failing both us and our planet, from our food and environment to the technology we depend on.
What’s hurting us today? Some things are:
“Forever chemicals,” a.k.a. PFAS, are detected in the blood of 99% of Americans, including newborn babies. 🔗
Just 1,000 rivers are responsible for ~80% of ocean plastic waste 🔗
98% of meat in the United States is processed by about 50 mega-facilities 🔗
Most Americans are disconnected from their food sources
Over 40% of edible food is wasted globally 🔗
Only 34% of Americans trust most people, yet 79% of volunteers report increased trust in local organizations 🔗 🔗
Only 31% of Americans trust the media while community action measurably increases trust and belonging 🔗 🔗
Meanwhile, sustainability, from regenerative practices in local farming to waste reuse and decentralized energy, are showing us how to build better systems.
This is the work. That’s why my professional and personal lives are aligned:
My household is 100% food-scrap composting and low-waste
I only source food from local, regenerative farms
I practice a degrowth mindset, such as ethical spending toward sustainable businesses to decrease my carbon footprint
I believe participating in society comes with an ecological inheritance and responsibility
I support initiatives for building ecological, societal, and information resilience, not just digital convenience
This work fuels health for future generations and our greatest giver of life, Earth.
